Waiting for your Prescription |

I'm just wondering, why does it take so long when at the pharmacy for your prescription?
I don't go to pharmacies anymore for my medicine, now I just order online. I thought it was a pain in the @$$ to wait at the pharmacy when I used to go...I never did know why I had to wait! |

You have to wait until the are able to decipher the doctor's handwriting. On a more serious note, I read somewhere that they have to be sure they have the correct medication and the correct dosage because if they don't they will have to face legal actions. |

Waiting in the pharmacy is the worst. I hate it. I have recently started order my prescription online too. It is great my prescription comes within 7 days. |

It’s not too bad if you just drop it off and pick it up later, that’s if you’re not in a time crunch. Ordering online is by far the most convenient. |

I've been lucky enough to have a drugstore on the corner of my block since I've lived here for decades. My whole family was friendly with the first pharmacist there and now it has a second owner who is going to retire soon and we've been becoming friendly with the new owner who is getting to know the business.
If you can find a pharmacist who knows you and your family, knows what your health is, if you can get to know someone as a person, it really helps when you're buying anything. But it's even better when the store owner knows he can trust you too.
There were times I had to tell him that I was just out of money and couldn't afford a drug -- and that sweet man gave me a DEEP discount. He has also rushed a drug order if I needed it badly. Once he talked to my doctor and got the drug to me in 10 minutes. I was flabbergasted!
He knows that I will buy all my small items from him, like toilet paper and sun block and Q tips, before I go to a big store. He has my business for life and he has helped me and my family out a lot.
See if you can support a smaller store in your neighborhood. Knowing people personally can help a lot. |

You have to wait because yours is not the only prescription that they are filling. This is usually first come, first served so sometimes you have to wait longer. Plus they have to run your insurance through which can take a bit depending. And they have to be very careful and double-check everything so nobody gets the wrong med or dosage. |

It is very beneficial to create lasting relationships. You never know when you may need a little help. As for the wait, believe it or not, your not the only one going to your pharmacy that needs a prescription filled ;) |

I was very lucky today. I went to get an Rx filled and ended up waiting only until they could open up since I was 15 minutes early. I think thats the first time I ever did not wait. |

I almost always call in my refills ahead of time so I don't have to wait. When I get a new prescription and it is for something I need right away I can normally get it fairly quickly. It can take time to get everything processed because the insurance has to approve it, they need to make sure they have it in stock, print labels, etc.
I'm supposed to use mail order for my insurance but have been putting it off because I have to get a 3 months supply and with all of the medication we take it will cost a fortune to get things started. Then I have to worry about filing with my secondary insurance where the pharmacy does that now.
