I stopped smoking almost three years ago after a eighteen-year habit. My doctors, of course, are happy, but always ask how long I did smoke when they found out that I used to. Am I still in danger? |

Good for you.
You have to be a strong person to quit smoking because tobacco is just as addictive as cocaine or heroin and usually everyone relapses.
I have a sister that smokes and she finally quit a couple of years ago but what is so ironic is she can't stand smokers anymore.
I think it's so funny how she rolls her eyes at all the smokers now! |

Good job! I think there is damage that has been done. However, you have made your health future much brighter by quiting. |

Congratulations on quitting smoking. I quit eight years ago and it's just about the hardest thing I've ever done. I've often wondered if I still have damage from all the years I smoked (30+) I had started having some asthma and that continued for a couple of years after quitting but it's no longer a problem for me. |

I am still a smoker. I understand that the damage I am doing to my lungs now are not reversable. Ozzie if you smoked for 30+ years, I am sure you still have damage from it, even though your temporary asthma is gone. |

I think you can find evidence that supports almost every idea out there, you might be reversing trouble that smoking might have done -- or that nothing will help the damage already done. But that you feel better means more than any other evidence.
But you can totally believe that you have done a great good for yourself by stopping smoking. It's a difficult task and you managed to do it.
Congratulations!
