Poison Ivy

I don't know where why or how but somehow I've gotten into the stuff and have a bad rash in a few places. I've washed it with soap with no seeming improvement. Put on calamine lotion which relieves the itching but doesn't do anything else. I do know what Jewelweed is and know that the juice helps some but I live in the big bad city and don't have a clue where I could find some. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what might help this heal faster.

You could try taking Benadryl, as well. It helps with your allergic reaction to the poison and can help heal up the blisters. I would take 2 capsules every 4 to 6 hours. Be careful about driving when you first take it though, to make sure it doesn't make you sleepy.

I have been told that soaking in a cool bath can work wonders, but you can only stay in a bath for so long. If the rash is severe, you might be able to get your doctor to call in a corticosteroid to help speed up the healing process.

I personally use a poison ivy soap, and then a poison ivy ointment by Burt's Bees. Its done great for all of our family's insect bites and poison ivy for some time.

The Burt's Bees stuff sounds interesting. I have seen their products in the store but did not know that they make a poison ivy soap. Also I was surprised by the link for Jewelweed products on the net. I had no idea anyone was offering that. I'm getting over the rash now anyway but I will file the information for future reference.

Jewelweed generally only works if you can get it right away after contact with the poison ivy plant.

Basically anything that can reduce swelling (like Benadryl) and keeping yourself slathered in calamine lotion. (I haven't tried the Burt's Bees stuff for poison ivy.) There's going to be some suffering through it. I don't know anything that prevents that.
