Are there any that are top rated? I am looking for someone that has used a couple different types and knows the normal reactions of them. I have yet to try anything but I'm at the point I need to take sometime or I'm not going to make it through the season. |

Claritin (or the generic loratidine) worked super well for me for several years. I have severe indoor and outdoor allergies, too. I have become somewhat immune to it this year and am now taking Zyrtec (generic cetirizine) and it's working pretty well although not as well as the loratidine used to. I haven't had any issues or side effects with either med and neither made me drowsy. |

My two top things are relaxation to maintain a low stress level and a homeopathic hay fever treatment (tastes awful works great). If that fails to work I normally take generic Benadryl, Claritin, or Alavert. Depends on what was on sale and if I need to stay awake or not. |

The trouble in getting recommendations for allergy medications is that what works for one person and doesn't give them side effects, might not work for another person and other people can get all the side effects.
Look for allergy medications that don't raise your blood pressure or bring on more problems that you have now.
It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor if he can recommend one. My doc recommended one that is not supposed to raise the blood pressure and it works for me.
Then when you find one that works, take the generic name and do a search to see if you can find a place that sells it cheaper. Don't pay more money just for the product name.
These pills can be expensive!

skatss I am well aware of the issue that what works for some doesnt work for all. I was just looking for general feedback about different types right now. I have just recently moved (to another state) and having issues tracking down a doctor that is accepting new patients. So any info I can grab online I am keeping tabs on for when I can get that appointment. :) O how I love moving. |

I've tried so many different things for allergies that it isn't even funny. Many started as prescription only and later ended up as OTC. My problem is something will work for me for a couple of months and then it won't work. I've gone through a lot of the more recent additions to OTC drugs (Claritin, Zyrtec) and they don't work any more but I am now taking OTC Chlor-Trimeton and it works again. Allergies are a fickle thing and my opinion is to try something to see if it works and move to another if it doesn't.
