In schools

I have noticed a huge decline in talking about drugs in school and I have even sat in on a couple since I have children that will deal with these topics in a couple of years. It seems they barely skim the basics and Im trying to see if this is something just for my redneck state or everywhere else??

My child is still a toddler so I have not had the need to start those yet. I am just keeping myself informed of the happening and the various faces that the drugs scene takes on over the years.

You might try getting the Parent-Teachers Association looking into that in your school. You can request lecturers that each city has who can talk to the kids.

Here in NYC, there are still lots of anti Drug organizations around. Many of them are part of a "Stay In School" push that's going on now.

It doesn't matter what other places are doing, you are right to worry about it in your neighborhood. As long as there are interested parents like you, then the kids will be kept informed about the dangers that they will have to face as they grow up.

Yea, when I was in school we the the "Say No To Drugs" campaign that Nancy Reagan started.

I also remember all those commercials that said: "This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs...any questions?

Both were great drug prevention campaigns.

The biggest things in school these days seem to be safe sex and no tobacco, at least in my area. I think you're right about less drug education.

I agree, my schools never talked about drugs enough either. And no, it's not just your town where its bad. Drugs are bad no matter how goody-good you think your town is.
