1. Use generic medications.
2. Find a lower-cost option, such as an over-the-counter alternative.
3. Shop around.
4. Order by mail.
5. Research state discount programs.
6. Beware of freebies and commercial discount programs.

I have been researching my subscriptions on a regular basis just to double check and make sure no one’s offers have changed. Most doctors are more than happy to give generic medications and when my doctor suggests a new drug that does not have a generic equivalent I am not shy about telling him I need the generic due to cost considerations.
