A new San Antonio-based company is making buying prescription drugs from online pharmacies easier and safer through a Web site that ensures the companies are licensed.

Cary Byrd, president of eDrugSearch.com, says the Web site … provides consumers with everything they need to know about online pharmacies — including information on licensing credentials, medications in stock and pricing.

“The idea of eDrugSearch started about three years ago,” Byrd says. “I noticed that the online pharmacy industry was highly fragmented and everything was disorganized. I wanted to create something that consumers could go to and easily access.”

Byrd says it is difficult to distinguish which pharmacies are legitimate from those that are not. That, he says, is where his site can help.

With a staff of about eight, eDrugSearch researches the companies before they can be listed on its Web site. Byrd says he also uses third-party research from companies like Vermont-based Internet and Mail Order Pharmacy Accreditation Commission (IMPAC) and the Canada-based Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) …

Currently, eDrugSearch (www.edrugsearch.com) features about 25 pharmacies that Byrd has hand-picked to be featured on the site.

Those 25 pharmacies represent about 30,000 drug listings, which we expect to increase soon to more than 100,000 — making eDrugSearch.com by far the most comprehensive resource available for ordering medications online.
