I prefer taking vicodin to oxycotin due to the fact that these are time release and taken as prescribed I was allowed two per day. I prefer the vicodin because I could take it to relieve pain when I needed it, not be "stoned" all day when pain was not that bad. I felt more high and less pain relief with oxycotin, more pain relief and less high with vicodin es.

I would recommend Oxycontin for someone that is not finding relief with lesser medications like Lortab. Oxycontin does work for pain(and it's a time release drug so it works for a long while), however you have to be careful to take it with food. It can make you really sick otherwise. Never, ever, chew up or grind the Oxycontin, this will put all the drug into your system too fast and can even kill you. As far as drawbacks- this is an extremely expensive drug, and if you don't have insurance you might want to try something else rather than pay 300-400 dollars for a one month supply.

I have taken Oxycontin several times over the past couple of years for various injuries or post-op surgical recovery periods. It works very well for me, but I also have to take an anti-nausea medicine with it. But, it's worth the relief.
